Square bagel

Apparently Bruegger's has carried these for a while but my first encounter with them was earlier today. They make sandwiches on these and call them "softwiches." Did they really think they could improve on the bagel? What arrogance!

SQUAGEL! ...I didn't make that up. They sell them (or used to sell them) at Cosi.

    Feh.
The worst thing about these and regular Bruegger's "bagels" is that they are more or less edible, if you forget they are supposed to be some kind of bagel. Hence, they have driven real bagels completely out of my area.
There is a Brueggers on just about every block around here. Apple-spice bagels? Eeew.

  3. Squagel? That is monstrous. But I'd like to try it.

There is only one Bruegger's near me, Lindy, but that doesn't mean there are good bagels. Do you have Einstein Bros. bagels? They are more common around here and their bagels, while also edible, are even less bagelish than Bruegger's. They're spongey instead of dense and because they're not boiled before baking their crust is pathetic, a shanda. (I do like their soups, though.)

  4. Why not just call it a Fresh Baked Roll. I've never had it but it looks good, but calling it a bagel does not make it a bagel.

  5. The heck with the shape, how can it be soft and be a bagel?
